      Sing to God, sing praises to God; tell of all God's wondrous works! -Psalms 105:2

      The purpose of the Music Ministry is to provide music for all liturgical celebrations of the parish and to  encourage the full, active, and conscious participation of the assembly in the liturgy.  The choir of voices and instruments lead the parishioners in song throughout Mass for prayer, reflection, and meditation.  Another very important function of the Music Ministry is the offering to God of one’s time and talents.  If your faith makes you ready to make beautiful music in ministry, consider joining the Music Ministry.

      * from Mr. Les:  I am fortunate to be able to carve out a few days (August 22-September 6) to visit my father in the Philippines. He was supposed to have come back home to L.A. in April 2020, but the pandemic hit, and he was stranded in the Philippines. At 96-years-old, my father is getting weaker, and I am not sure he would want to return to the U.S. In this light, this may or may not be the last time I would see him again (his father died at age 94). I ask for your prayers for me and my father during this trip. Thank you!

                         Invitation to 2023 So Cal Catholic Youth Choral Festival & Mass

      kathleen pcchoirs.org

      AttachmentsFri, Sep 9, 12:45 PM (4 days ago)

      to me
       Dear Mr. Rangel-Santos,
      My name is Kathleen Prina, and I am the Program Director for the American Federation Pueri Cantores (www.pcchoirs.org). I wanted to give you a little background information about Pueri Cantores and our 2023 Southern California Youth Choral Festival & Mass (for treble choirs in grades 4-12) that is being held on Saturday, March 11 at St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado. We would love to have your choir participate next year. I’ve attached the save-the-date flyer and festival repertoire, and the festival brochure with more information will be available soon.

      At next year’s Festival, hundreds of students in grades 4-12 from various Catholic Schools and churches across the Mid-Atlantic area will unite for a day of musical excellence, spiritual and personal growth, academic and cultural enrichment, and community, inclusion, and friendship. In preparation of the Festival day, individual choirs spend months rehearsing and learning the Festival repertoire with their choir directors and music teachers. On the day of the Festival, the combined choir of hundreds of students is led by a nationally recognized Catholic conductor/educator who engages and inspires the gathered choristers, bringing the sacred music to life. The Festival day lasts 7 hours with ample rehearsal time, lunch/snack breaks, opportunities for children to interact with their peers, and the day culminates with the Festival Mass, where the trained combined choir shares their beautiful young voices to enhance the liturgy.
      Pueri Cantores is the official student-choral organization of the Catholic Church, based at the Vatican, with Federations in 37 countries, boasting some 70,000 singers world-wide. AFPC is the American arm of this international organization, which was founded in Europe after the First World War. Its purpose is to introduce choristers (grades 4-12) to significant sacred music, to train them, and to have them gather locally, regionally and nationally for liturgical and concert events. We work hand in hand with directors of parish youth choirs and parochial school choirs to organize choral festivals, bringing hundreds of students together, often at the local Cathedral/Basilica, Catholic College/University or other architecturally significant churches.

      To see our Pueri Cantores singers in action, check out our last year’s SoCal Festival HERE from this past March at Christ Cathedral in Orange County with Bishop Kevin Vann celebrating the Mass. We had over 315 singers join us for this special event! Our hope is to recreate this enriching event for the young Catholic singers in SoCal again next year.

      The following is also a great video to help introduce new-to-Pueri Cantores conductors to the organization with information and organizational tips about how to prepare your choir for a Pueri Cantores Festival:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGUeGNB5Ipo&t=3s

      Please let me know if you have any questions at all and how we can help get your choir involved in the festival next year.

      Many thanks,

      CHOIR IS A TEAM SPORT

      Have you ever played in a team sport?  Society easily accepts as gospel-truth the fact that a basketball team has to be a unified machine.

      The coach calls the warm-up time ½ hour to an hour before the game, and everyone arrives on time.  “On time” is BEFORE warm-up.  No one dares to come after warm-up has begun, lest he/she gets the ire of the coach (and the teammates!).

      The coach, forwards, center, guards, point-guard always arrive before practice or warm-up begins.  No one disputes this.  No one argues with the coach that it would be too much to ask the forwards to come to the practice or warm-up on time.  If a player does not come to the warm-up, the coach usually chooses a substitute from the bench to replace the late or absent teammate.  It is what it is.  And this is accepted without question.

      The same is true for the choir as a team sport in a church-setting.  The coach (choir director), forwards (choir), center (cantors), guards (psalmists), point-guard (instrumentalists) arrive on time for the team practice earlier in the week and the “warm-up” before the game.  Whoa!  But the Mass is not like a basketball game!?!  No, the Mass is not like a basketball game.  Actually, the Mass IS MORE than a basketball game.  The Mass is the source and summit of the Christian life!  But if we accept the basketball game team “rules” (and for that matter, all sports team rules) so easily and without question, then the practices or “warm-up times” and bringing all your music to the Church choir activities need to be taken in even higher regard.  Right?  Right!

      https://tse1.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.GzU83yP3l7kgM4t1WC6HcgHaHa&pid=15.1&P=0&w=300&h=300 Would you come to your soccer practice late, even once?  Would you come to your volleyball
      tournament without your uniform or gear?

      Come to the team practice (rehearsal) or game (Mass) on time with all your gear (things you need for the ministry):

      1. Team Uniform:  Choir robe

      1. Folder with music

      1. Pencil

      1. Instrument, if applicable

      As a basketball teammate, always come prepared, ready to play (or sing!) with your proper gear.  Won’t you be a team player?

      WHY THE ROBE?

      The iChildren’s Choir (iCC) robe is standard clothing worn by members of the iCC while participating in ministry at Incarnation Catholic Church:

      The iCC robes:

      • make members of the iCC stand out of the crowd of adults, so that they can be easily recognizable—especially for security and safety reasons;

      • affirm the discipline of music, ministry, liturgy, spirituality, and teamwork;

      • encourage children to behave positively while wearing the choir robe in Church;

      • distinguish members of the iCC for the ministry they do;

      • evoke sameness, without any difference;

      • provide a sense of commonality and solidarity which develops among members of the iCC;

      • not only make members of the iCC feel proud but also have an imposing effect on others and, with the presence of a child in a iCC robe, can change the mood of people around him/her;

      • result in considerable conservation of time and energy of the members and their families (especially early Sunday morning), as he/she doesn’t have to choose again and again the clothes to be worn in Church;

      • promote a sense of belonging and community;

      • promote the sense of equality: the iCC robe brings everyone to the same table (no matter the economic or social status of the families involved), thus inculcating a sense of equality among those wearing the iCC choir robe;

      • encourage mutual growth: wearing the iCC robe fosters caring for their fellow members; members care not only for their growth but the growth of their peers as well;

      • foster traits which are very necessary for a person as an individual and the iCC ministry--as a whole--to thrive and prosper.

      The Tagalog Choir of Incarnation Catholic Church was convened under the pastorate of Fr. Rodel Balagtas in 2020.  The day after the first Mass of the monthly Mass in Tagalog took place--when the choir made its ministry debut--the state closed all churches because of COVID-19.  The Tagalog Choir serves once a month for the third Sunday Mass in Tagalog and at other special Masses.  We rehearse on the Thursday before the third Sunday of the month from 7:30PM to 9PM in the church.
